Develop your skills in form, content, and craft. Deepen your critical abilities. Build fluency in your contemporary design discourse. Expand your ability to drive content in your work.

With the Master of Fine Arts Graphic Design program at Vermont College of Fine Arts, you can join our faculty and students in continuously rethinking graphic design by considering the role of design in the larger culture, the relationships between designers and their work, and the nature of education in design.

The MFA in Graphic Design at VCFA is a trailblazing low-residency program built around students’ particular interests, values, and goals.

How it works:

Both our two-year and three-year track offerings combine two on-campus residencies per year, with six-month semesters of faculty mentorship and independent study. You’ll join students, faculty, and guest designers for a weeklong residency on our historic campus in Montpelier, Vermont to begin each semester. You’ll then return home and continue to work from an individually crafted study plan with your faculty advisor for the remainder of each semester. You’ll have the opportunity to study with a range of brilliant and diverse faculty as you ask the hard questions: How can design change the world? How does the process of designing change you?

The Takeaway:

Earning a world-class MFA in Graphic Design is possible through VCFA’s pioneering low-residency model of education. Our graduates emerge with new research methods, critical expertise, and a body of design work that is personal and relevant to the next stage in their design careers and creative lives. Take this next step with us!
